I love photography. I remember when I was 6 years old spending time with my father in the darkroom. I was fascinated with pictures appearing out of what seemed like plain water. It was a miracle I thought! I began learning how to use a camera with my father's old Voigtländer. It was a bit frustrating at first because it was one of those 'range-finder' cameras that made you think a lot. Often I would end up with one good exposure from a whole roll of film.
While I was taking photo classes in high school in the early 80's, I decided I wanted a Single Lens Reflex camera - an SLR they call it. I envied my classmates who had one. So on my sophomore year, I worked at Burger King part-time so I could buy my own camera. I saved up enough money to buy my first SLR - the Pentax ME Super. Since then I've been more excited about photography. From film to digital and today an iPhone mini.
I miss the grain and tonal range of film. The imperfection. I continue to explore ways to make digital images have similar qualities of film.
It's been two decades updating this site but glad to share all the moments during those times as my perspective evolves.
